TO GETTING POST YEAR 10 EDUCATION RIGHT
15

After years of policy experiments on Tasmania's post-year ten and vocational training systems by previous governments, morale was low and students were losing out.

It took a Greens Minister working with parents, staff, unions and industry to restore Tasmania's colleges and create TasTAFE.

After the turmoil of Labor’s disruptive ELS and Tasmania Tomorrow changes, the Greens wanted to make sure this major reform was done collaboratively and smoothly. And it was.

Not all of the Tasmania Tomorrow outcomes were bad. We've kept the best bits, especially a responsiveness to the skills needs of industry.

But we're also doing a lot of new stuff. We're collaborating closely with the University of Tasmania on pathways for students, and international education.

We're looking forward to the establishment of Centres of Excellence where we can deliver high level skills training in modern facilities with the best equipment.

Thanks to a Greens Minister, we have restored the independence of our Colleges. And we have TasTAFE, an enduring institution delivering the vocational skills Tasmania needs today, and staying ahead of the game for those we'll need in the future.

The Greens know investing in education is investing in our future.
